More on the "No Response Allowed" Error
There is nothing wrong with the "No Response Allowed" error.
"Web page authoring features are not available when Word is running inside another application" simply means that some program has an open reference to Word (is running Word in the background), and that Outlook can't use Word as the email-editor as long as that reference is open.
Solution #1: Go to settings, formatting, and uncheck "Use MS Word as your email editor".
Solution #2: Change to Netscape Messenger, Pegasus or something else. Outlook sucks.

Solution #2 is one I can not find fault with (although the opinion expressed is simply that of the writer and is not to be considered an editorial statement). We do -- speaking editorially -- prefer and recommend Qualcomm's Eudora as a suitably flexible and stable email handler.
The "No Response Allowed" error, however, has certainly generated a surprising number of responses with these coming from widely diverse geographic locations (although this latter is no surprise in the Internet Age). What is interesting is the variety of the responses, ranging from cures to explanations to condemnation. (A list of links follows.)
The real point in criticizing this message, however, is that:
1) It should never have appeared in the first place. The fact that this message appears is simply poor design in what is supposed to be a multitasking environment and is therefore inexcusable.
2) When the message does appear, it conveys no intelligible information to the user. In this sense, it is very wrong!
3) No error message should ever require 'explanation'!

May we suggest, however, that enough has been said on this topic?
